ISDN RECORDING

ISDN Recording Studio in Kansas City

Integrated Services for Digital Network (ISDN) is defined as a set of communication standards for simultaneous digital transmission of data, voice and other network services over the traditional circuits of the public switched telephone network. Prior to the ISDN, the public telephone system was viewed as a way to solely transport voice, with some very specialized services available for data. The key and amazing feature of ISDN for audio recordings is that it integrates speech and data on the same lines, adding features that were not available in the classic telephone system.

What can an ISDN do to make your life easier?

Have you been hired for a voice-over in New York, but don’t have the time or money to travel? Are you being interviewed for a live radio show, where it needs to sound like you’re right there in the studio.

As a director, you can cast your next script / story-board from a world-wide talent pool of voiceover actors. These people either have home studios we can connect to, or a professional studio nearby we can hook to.

How does the ISDN system work for Audio Recording Studios?

It doesn’t matter if your talent is local or lives in another country; our ISDN codec can connect with extraordinary clarity to anywhere in the world.

ISDN is a way to transmit and record high-quality audio from one studio to another using a digital telephone connection. It is quicker and safer than using a mailing service. The connection allows for real-time interaction and recording. For example, if you were to speak into one of our microphones, the remote studio would record the signal at broadcast quality in their studio location, anywhere in the world. Since the sound quality is so good, it can be recorded on the remote studio’s equipment and used immediately. Maybe half of the sessions we do are such ‘virtual-sessions’ where the talent’s somewhere else, but we’re here recording the script, adding music or sound design, and putting it together in Kansas City. The clients often join the process via Skype or conference call.

SOURCE-CONNECT is another technology which offers the same real-time connection as ISDN. This newer technology, however, is Internet based, not telephone network based. Wheeler Audio supports both connection types.
